Laying down some digital inheritance.

Update: Small issue with some footnotes, hopefully now fixed.

As we have turned the corner on month 4 and hurtle towards month 5 of the Grand Child Experiment, it occurred to me that we’ve hit some interesting milestones since the last post. Ella is now sitting upright, although not for very long without some pillow assistance. She’s eating non-liquid food (although I’d hesitate to call what she is eating a ‘solid’. There is some interesting phase transitions going on in this whole baby food arena.). We are on carrots, bananas, and Baby Rice.1

Ella has also ticked a few boxes:

Note: one of these isn’t true, just in case anyone was thinking of calling us to warn of the danger of her having her own room

So all in all, progress on many fronts. Unfortunately, sleep seems to have slid backwards, as Ella now doesn’t seem to nap as well as she used to, thus it can be problematic2 getting her down at night. And she seems to be an early riser, another gene clearly not on the Y chromosome. I’ve found myself up more at 4am in the last 4 weeks than I think I did throughout my whole 20s. That sounds very, very sad. Most of the time Ella is quite happy at that time (in fact, she likes to chat to herself at 4:30m). Occasionally she’ll scream her head off – I’m surprised the authorities haven’t descended on us, our soundproofing must be better than I thought or our neighbours sleep like the dead.

Think that is the end of the update — there a number of new photos over at flickr. Here’s a sample, after a bit of whiskey.

  1. bears no resemblance to rice in any way, other than it is somewhat offwhite. []
