Changing a flat.
Our flat’s effects have been sorely in need of some pruning, no longer can we simply hang onto things that we previously enjoyed/found use for or that we hope to again. Everything needs to be seen through a filter of “does this deserve a home at our home?”
Last summer,as I was putting together our nursery, I found myself shedding hundreds of books and even more CDs as we attempted to empty the shelving in what had been our office. The charity shop up in Angel did well off my many trips.1
Now that we’ve had our little one for 6 months or so and she has begun to accumulate stuff (toys, clothes, books, more toys) the need to revisit the purge has grown. Not to mention that a cold, wet, grey London winter is a wonderful reminder that you need to enjoy every part of your flat. So we’ve been taking little steps to make the place more of a home for us. Stuff that we let slide by we no longer let slide. This means making some hard choices (and occasionally that hard choice means a fair bit of dosh.) But, the place is much, much better for it, and we’ve just done some little things. The big bits are still to come. Can’t wait.
- see how many books you can carry in bags at one time — think I hit 90 on one trip, but my back reminded me that was a very bad idea for about a week [↩]
