The Evolution of Humanity
I’ve seen the likely next evolutionary step in humanity — removing the need for sleep. I’ve been privy to this remarkable discovery through direct observation, namely our daughter, who now seems to happily (most of the time) exist on negligble amounts of sleep. Unfortunately her mother and I are from the old-school gene pool (and dad’s proud of his deep-end gene for napping) and thus are starting to fray at the edges.
This remarkable genetic lunge takes two forms, the ability to rouse from her minimal sleep at the ungodly hour of 4am at which point she is expecting the day to begin and daddy to start with play, or, more recently, by an ability to stay way later than we can now handle. That’s definitely an inclusive ‘or’ as some nights/mornings we get both. As I’ve told many people, everything about the 1st 9 months has been much better than I expected, except for the sleep routine, which is much, much worse.
Other parents we’ve discussed this with have scoffed at my evolutionary leap idea and suggested that Ella is merely ‘going through a development spurt’. Hah. If I wasn’t so knackered, I would debate and point out the flaws in that argument, but frankly, its time for bed.
And for the multimedia portion of this post, here’s a recent photo of her with what we will be sending her to nursery with. Baby’s got to have a nice phone, no? More on that soon.
