Laying down some digital inheritance.

Now that we are fast approaching the end of year 1 we decided to take a short weekend family holiday last week and jaunted over to what is billed the ‘family-friendly-est’ city of Copenhagen. Monocle magazine also names Copenhagen the world’s best city to live in. I can see some of that (compact, easy access to very nice airport, good cafe/bar culture) but I think the the main upside seems to be the tax advantages of having kids there over anywhere else. Childless taxpayers weren’t as friendly as advertised. There is a group that have removed themselves from the tax system and live in an area called Christiana. Our brief visit found them to be mostly unwashed men drinking from the local still at 11am with their dogs and giving passers-by the evil eye. But perhaps that was just me.

The city isn’t the most picturesque I’ve been to (although there are certainly a few spots, see here ) but is reasonably calm, very safe and there certainly are lots of families. The break was great, and we even managed a lovely evening meal at a wonderful restaurant in the Østerbro region called Fru Heiberg. Highly recommended if you find yourself in Copenhagen.

This current weekend the excursion was closer to home, an annual Canada Day BBQ in Ealing. The trip home took about as long as the flight from Copenhagen due to issues with the Piccadilly line but the day itself was great. Ella managed to eat every strawberry in sight, and thus completely drenched her outfit in juice. This outfit was the result: DSC_6086

A few more photos of bbq activities are up at Flickr

Next week is the big 1st birthday. Wow.
